The Guitar Storage staff took another roadtrip to see Jimmy lead a group of very talented musicians pay tribute to the music of Paul Butterfield.
Steve Guyger did a masterful job blowing harp with a real Butterfield feel. Jimmy was in his element re-creating all the Mike Bloomfield guitar licks. Jimmy played the bulk of the songs on his Les Paul but picked up a Telecaster for a couple songs, as well as his slide-dedicated Danelectro and a Resonator he used on “Poor Boy”. Sharing the spotlight was guitarist Jimmy Eppard who did a great job trading riffs with Jimmy and holding down the rhythm. It looked like he was playing a Spector guitar from our vantage-point.
The talented Chris Castle came out and did a great version of one of our favorites, “In My Own Dream” on acoustic guitar and accompanied by one of the Blue Food Horn players.
It was a special pleasure to see and hear Paul’s son Gabe Butterfield who played drums and shared a few vocals with the rest of the band. We were surprised and thrilled to be treated to a preview screening of a film about Paul Butterfield, being produced by Gabe and producer Thom Pollard. Gabe gave a touching tribute to his dad before the film. We especially enjoyed having a chance to meet Gabe and Thom the next day and we hope the film gets out there so more people and future generations will get to experience Paul’s music.
