I bought an old Japan made Strat from a buddy. A friend of mine wanted the guitar, to hang in his mom’s living room, in Mexico. He wanted to swap a 9mm pistol for the guitar. I called my local music store, and asked about the possible value of the guitar. The guy at the counter said, everything made in Japan would not be valuable, or collectible. So, I made the trade, and while shopping at Guitar Center, a few months later, I saw my old Strat, for sale for $1,199!
